Victoria Mboko Reaches Montreal Semifinal After Stunning WinVictoria Mboko Reaches Montreal Semifinal After Stunning Win

Victoria Mboko’s sensational run at the WTA 1000 event in Montreal continued on Monday night with another strong win. The 18-year-old Canadian defeated Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2 to book her spot in the semifinals.

Mboko has now won five consecutive matches in Montreal. This quarterfinal victory comes just two days after her stunning fourth-round win over Coco Gauff, the tournament’s top seed and Roland Garros champion.

With this result, Victoria Mboko becomes the youngest semifinalist at the WTA 1000 in Canada in a decade. She is just 183 days younger than Belinda Bencic was when she won the title in Toronto in 2015.

This is also only her seventh career WTA main draw appearance. Mboko becomes the third player in the Open Era to reach her first tour-level semifinal at the Canadian WTA 1000. She is also the first Canadian to do so in Montreal. Faye Urban and Bianca Andreescu achieved this feat in Toronto.

“To have such an achievement at a tournament like this is really a milestone for me,” Mboko said.

“I’m just so happy that I’ve got to have this whole experience in Montreal. Overall I don’t have many words to say, but I just feel so content and so happy.”

Dominant Performance Against Bouzas Maneiro

Against world No. 51 Bouzas Maneiro, Mboko showed no signs of slowing down. She broke serve five times and won the final six games to seal the match in just 72 minutes.

Mboko is now the third teenager in 2025 to reach a WTA 1000 semifinal. Mirra Andreeva and Alexandra Eala also made the semifinals earlier this year in Indian Wells and Miami. It’s the first time since 2009 that three teenagers have achieved this in the same season.

Next Challenge: Elena Rybakina Rematch

Now, Victoria Mboko will look to reach the final of her home WTA 1000 event. To do so, she must beat former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina—who defeated her just last week 6-3, 7-5 in Washington, D.C.

“I think I just need to maybe up my level a little bit and just to stay in there with her,” Mboko said. “You know, she has really great groundstrokes, really great serves. So I guess on that day I want to do my best to kind of stay in there with her.”

If Mboko wins, she’ll become just the third Canadian to reach the final of this tournament in the Open Era.
