World number one Jannik Sinner and rival Carlos Alcaraz will meet in the Cincinnati Open 2025 final. Both players secured straight-set wins in the semifinals to book their highly anticipated clash.
Sinner, celebrating his 24th birthday, defeated French qualifier Terence Atmane 7-6 (7/4), 6-2. The Italian, tuning up for the US Open, has not dropped a set this week. He aims to become the first man since Roger Federer in 2014-15 to win back-to-back Cincinnati titles.
“It’s a very, very tough challenge every time you play a new opponent,” Sinner said. “In the later stages of the tournament, the pressure is on, they deserve to be there.”
Alcaraz Battles Heat to Secure Final Spot
Carlos Alcaraz overcame Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3 in hot and humid conditions. Zverev, suffering in the 32°C heat, took a medical timeout but returned to finish the match. Alcaraz raised his ATP season win count to 53 with the victory.
“We started well with good rallies, a good level,” Alcaraz said. “All of a sudden he felt bad and I was thinking more about how he was feeling instead of playing good tennis. It was tough and I just wish him all the best.”
Alcaraz, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Cincinnati final, is eager for revenge after his Wimbledon defeat to Sinner last month. “We always bring our best tennis. We raise each other’s level. I’m ready to take the challenge,” Alcaraz said.
Sinner Eyes US Open Preparation
Sinner handled Atmane with precision, dominating the tiebreaker and breaking serve twice in the second set. The victory extended his unbeaten run against French players to 22 matches since May 2021.
“My experience helped in the first set,” Sinner said. “I’m very happy to go through to another final. The pressure was on me. That’s normal in the position where I am in — he was ready to fight.”
“My goal has always been the US Open, But we have put in the work here, in the gym and in practice. I just hope to be ready for New York.”
The Cincinnati Open 2025 final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz promises a high-intensity showdown on Monday.
