Novak Djokovic showed his grit and experience in the US Open 2025 third round against Cam Norrie. The Serbian star won 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-3 in 170 minutes. Djokovic hit 51 winners, 18 aces, and produced his best serving performance of the tournament.
“My team wants me to suffer on the court, so I get some more minutes,” Djokovic joked.
Djokovic entered the match after limited preparation. He had not played between Wimbledon and the US Open. Rust was visible early, and a back issue forced a medical timeout in the first set. Still, he adjusted quickly.
“Still trying to find my groove and my rhythm on the court,” he said. “I think today I probably played the best I played so far in the tournament.”
Norrie’s Resistance in Second Set
Cam Norrie, making his Arthur Ashe debut at 30, fought bravely. He saved three break points in the second set and won the tiebreak with smart forehands and volleys. The crowd rallied behind him as he looked close to his first win over Djokovic.
Norrie even broke Djokovic at the start of the third set with a forehand drop shot winner. But his errors at 1-0 cost him momentum. A forehand into the net and a double fault at break point shifted the match back. Djokovic regained control and never let it go.
Djokovic Proves His Fitness
The veteran showed he still has explosive movement. At 3-3 in the first set, Djokovic sprinted forward and produced a stunning backhand pass. He later sealed the game with a lob-smash combo.
His overall stats stood out: 21 of 25 points won at the net, 51 winners, and just 31 errors. “It was probably my best serving performance of the tournament,” Djokovic admitted.
After the win, he had a message for younger rivals. “I’m good, as young as ever, and as strong as ever,” he said, pointing toward the camera.
Djokovic next faces 35-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff, who defeated Frances Tiafoe. He avoids both an American and a much younger opponent. “It’s New York, even if you’re [not feeling it], the energy in this building just overrides it,” Djokovic said.
Someday Djokovic may not play into Slam rhythm. But as the Novak Djokovic vs Cam Norrie US Open 2025 match proved, that day has not yet arrived.
