Sinner Defeats De Minaur to Reach China Open Final 2025Sinner Defeats De Minaur to Reach China Open Final 2025

Jannik Sinner kept his flawless record intact against Alex de Minaur, securing a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory in the China Open 2025 semi-final in Beijing. With this win, the world No. 2 reached his 30th ATP final and stretched his unbeaten run on hard courts to nine straight finals.

The Italian, who has now defeated De Minaur in all 11 of their career meetings since 2019, displayed both tactical precision and mental strength in a closely contested two-hour, 20-minute encounter.

“I felt like the level was very high,” Sinner said. “Many great rallies, many great chances for both. I had my chances in the second set and couldn’t use them but he had his chances and it was quite an even match. In the third set I tried to raise my level. I broke him very early, which gave me confidence to then serve better. I am very happy about today. It was a different match than usual against him, it was a very even match.”

Sinner Chases Third Straight Beijing Final

The win makes Jannik Sinner only the second player after Novak Djokovic (2012-15) to reach three consecutive finals in Beijing. The 24-year-old, who lifted the trophy in 2023 and lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 final, will now face either Daniil Medvedev or Learner Tien for the title.

Sinner has advanced to the final in seven of the eight tournaments he has entered this season, including Grand Slam triumphs at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Despite falling to Alcaraz in the US Open final — a result that saw him surrender the No. 1 ranking — Sinner remains in the race for the Year-End No. 1 title. He currently trails Alcaraz by 2,590 points in the ATP Live Race to Turin.

De Minaur Battles Hard But Falls Short

De Minaur, the tour leader in hard-court victories this year with 34, once again found no solution against Sinner’s relentless aggression. Although the Australian fought back in the second set with improved consistency and just eight unforced errors, he couldn’t turn the momentum in his favor.

“He was serving great at times with great pace and precision,” Sinner added. “He was returning very well. I was serving very well today, but he neutralised my serve very well. He was moving very fast and this court is quite slow at times, so he arrives at more balls. I tried to stay concentrated and not lose mental energy. It was a very difficult match today, so I am very happy.”

The run to the semi-finals boosts De Minaur’s hopes of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals. He currently sits seventh in the live race with 3,345 points — 640 ahead of 10th-placed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

With one more victory, Sinner could extend his dominant season by capturing his 21st career title and strengthening his push for the ATP Year-End No. 1 crown.
