US Open 2025 title hopeful Elena Rybakina has expressed happiness about reuniting with her coach Stefano Vukov. The Kazakh star believes his return has boosted her campaign in New York as she targets another Grand Slam success.
“I never had any issues with him, so for me it’s just nice to see him in the box,” Rybakina said. “We obviously have good communication and we never had [an] issue.”
The reunion comes after Vukov’s suspension was overturned. The 38-year-old Croat had been banned earlier this year for breaching the WTA’s Code of Conduct. He consistently denied wrongdoing and appealed the decision. Following a hearing, the suspension was lifted, allowing him to return earlier this month.
Vukov’s Return and Rybakina’s Confidence
The WTA confirmed Vukov is once again eligible to receive credentials. “While case details remain confidential, we can confirm that Mr Vukov is eligible to receive credentials at WTA events,” it said.
Rybakina, now ranked world number 10, has worked with Vukov since her teenage years. He guided her to the 2022 Wimbledon title, her first and only Grand Slam. Their partnership briefly ended before the 2023 US Open, and Rybakina hired Novak Djokovic’s former coach Goran Ivanisevic. However, the partnership ended after the Australian Open, paving the way for Vukov’s return.
Rybakina’s Strong Run in New York
With Vukov back in her corner, Rybakina looks stronger than ever at the US Open 2025. She reached the fourth round for the first time in her career after defeating Britain’s Emma Raducanu in straight sets. She now faces Czech star Marketa Vondrousova in a high-profile clash on Sunday.
The 26-year-old also shared she has overcome health struggles, including insomnia and frequent illnesses. “Now it’s much better and I have no issues, so I’m pretty happy,” Rybakina explained.
She added: “Things in the box definitely helps a lot, and I think it’s important when the whole team can support you.”
