Alcaraz Joins Tennis Legends with Six Grand SlamsAlcaraz Joins Tennis Legends with Six Grand Slams

Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1, said he is on the “right path” after winning his second US Open. At just 22, Alcaraz became the second-youngest man to claim six Grand Slams, trailing only Bjorn Borg.

Alcaraz delivered an all-around masterclass to beat Jannik Sinner in the US Open final. That victory made him the second-youngest to six majors since Bjorn Borg. He now sits ahead of Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer at the same age. Per BBC, Nadal also had six Slams at 22, but Alcaraz achieved it months earlier. Djokovic had just one at this age, and Federer had three.

Early Success, But the Road Ahead

Carlos Alcaraz spoke about his impressive early success and the importance of continuing on the winning path. He emphasized that, while achieving such milestones at a young age is impressive, it means little if he doesn’t keep winning.

Alcaraz stated, “I’m on the right path, I always say that. When I have more Grand Slams than legends like Rafa, Djokovic or Federer [at 22], it means I’m doing things right, that I’m on the right path.”

However, he acknowledged that his future in tennis will depend on how he builds on this early promise. “In the end, the numbers for being precocious mean nothing if you stagnate there. If you don’t continue on that path, winning titles, Djokovic and Federer would have one and not 24 and 20, respectively. Now is the time to continue on this path.”

Dominating the US Open 2025

Alcaraz’s US Open campaign was arguably his strongest Grand Slam run to date. He dropped just a single set throughout the tournament—against Sinner in the final. Even more impressive, Alcaraz faced only ten break points across his seven matches, showcasing his commanding performance on the biggest stage.

When asked about dealing with the pressure that comes with being at the top of the sport, Alcaraz shared his mindset, stating, “In the end, we try to accept things as they come. These days, it’s impossible, and we can’t stop people from talking, setting expectations, and giving titles to the things we’re doing.”

He continued, “You have to know how to handle it in the best possible way and even use that as energy to continue giving our best. We try not to pay too much attention to it and, as I said, continue on our path. Above all, do the things we’ve been doing well.”

Alcaraz’s Historic Year and His Journey Ahead

This victory marked Alcaraz’s second Grand Slam title of the year, following his sensational French Open triumph in June. The win further solidifies his position as one of the brightest stars in modern tennis, with a clear path towards matching the records set by his legendary predecessors. His continued dominance makes him one of the most exciting players on the ATP tour today.

Not since Djokovic’s US Open victory in 2023 has any other player outside of Alcaraz or Sinner won a Grand Slam title in 2025, further cementing his stature as one of the most formidable forces in tennis.

Withdrawal from Davis Cup and Focus on Mental Recharge

On Monday, Alcaraz withdrew from the upcoming Davis Cup second-round qualifier in Marbella, citing physical and mental fatigue. While this may be a blow to Spain’s chances, Alcaraz expressed that the decision was a necessary one for his well-being.

Alcaraz explained, “The truth is that it’s difficult for me, I feel very bad. I’m on a very demanding tour, with a lot of matches. The demands have been very high both mentally and physically. I don’t have time to prepare in the best possible way and arrive at the Davis Cup in good shape, which would be too selfish. Other players can do better.”

Despite the setback, Alcaraz will be back in action when the Laver Cup begins on September 19, where he will feature on Team Europe alongside Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, Jakub Mensik, and Flavio Cobolli.
