Early Life

Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah was born on 6 December 1993 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His family lived a simple middle-class life, and tragedy struck early when his father, Jasbir Singh, passed away when Jasprit was just five years old. His mother, Daljit Bumrah, worked as a school principal and raised Jasprit and his sister, Juhika, as a single parent.

Growing up in a small home in the suburbs of Ahmedabad, young Jasprit fell in love with cricket while playing tennis-ball matches in his neighborhood. His unusual bowling action developed naturally—born more out of necessity and limited resources than formal coaching. He joined the MRF Pace Foundation and later trained under Kiran More’s academy, where his raw talent caught the eye of selectors.

Despite initial rejection from age-group squads due to his unorthodox action, Bumrah persevered. His breakthrough came in 2013 when he impressed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, leading to an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians the same year. That tournament changed everything.

Lifestyle

Jasprit Bumrah is best described by three words: focused, fierce, and unflappable. On the field, he’s a master strategist; off the field, he’s humble, introspective, and private. Unlike many flamboyant athletes, Bumrah rarely craves the limelight—he lets his yorkers do the talking.

His discipline is at the heart of his success. Bumrah follows a strict training routine involving gym work, functional movement drills, sprinting, and yoga. His core strength and ankle mobility allow him to deliver at full pace with a unique, injury-prone action. After a back injury in 2022, Bumrah returned stronger than ever, thanks to advanced rehab and mental conditioning.

He is known to study his opponents deeply—often watching hours of footage before a series. Team staff often say he asks the most intelligent questions in strategy meetings. His calm demeanor and razor-sharp focus under pressure make him one of the most reliable match-winners for India.

Marriage to Sanjana Ganesan

In March 2021, Bumrah married Sanjana Ganesan, a sports presenter and former Miss India finalist. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in Goa, attended by close family and friends. Sanjana, known for her work with Star Sports, shares a common love for cricket, and the two have been seen supporting each other through media tours and national duty.

Family Life

Despite his rise to global fame, Bumrah remains grounded. He often credits his mother, Daljit, for being his biggest inspiration. His elder sister, Juhika, continues to be one of his closest confidantes. He occasionally shares glimpses of his personal life on social media but prefers to keep it low-key.

In 2023, the couple welcomed their first child—a baby boy named Angad Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah took paternity leave during the Asia Cup to be with his family, stating, “Family is my first team.”

Domestic Journey

Bumrah began his professional career with Gujarat in 2013. His standout performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy quickly made him a name to watch. He was instrumental in Gujarat’s maiden Ranji Trophy victory in 2016–17, picking key wickets during crunch moments. His first-class record includes over 100 wickets at an average of under 25, which is outstanding for Indian pacers in domestic conditions.

International Career

Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut in 2016 during the ODI series against Australia and immediately made an impact with his yorkers and subtle variations. In the same year, he debuted in T20Is and soon became India’s go-to bowler in the death overs. His Test debut came in January 2018 against South Africa, where he stunned critics with pace, control, and five-fors in challenging overseas conditions.

Bowling Style & Technique

Bumrah’s sling-arm action, short run-up, and whippy release make him one of the most unique fast bowlers in modern cricket. He generates pace from a lightning-quick arm rotation and uses wrist position to extract late swing and seam movement. His accuracy, especially in yorkers, makes him lethal at the death.

What sets Bumrah apart is his intelligence—he reads batters well and adapts instantly. His slower deliveries, seam-up balls, and bouncers are all disguised with minimal change in action. Whether it’s red-ball cricket or the high-pressure final over of a T20, Bumrah remains India’s ultimate weapon.
