Racing Bulls teammates Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar recently enjoyed a rare chance to drive some of the most iconic Ford cars ever built. Featured in a new Ford Racing video, the duo jumped behind the wheel of classics such as the 1965 Mustang, rally legend RS200, the mighty Ford GT, and even the 2010 Focus RS.
Unlike a scripted PR campaign, the footage felt natural, showing two drivers having fun as if they were exploring a personal dream garage.
Hadjar’s First Pick: The 1965 Ford Mustang
When the covers came off the first car, Hadjar couldn’t hide his amazement. “Never,” Hadjar said after being asked if he’d driven an old car before as he looked over a number of them hidden under covers. Like two kids in a sweetshop, they eagerly pointed at the first two cars they wanted to uncover. Hadjar chose the classic Mustang.
“This is sick!” he said as he pulled away, both drivers giggling at the substantial steering wheel and the mammoth steering input needed to guide the boat.
Lawson Gets Nervous in the Ford RS200
Lawson’s choice was the Ford RS200, one of only 200 units ever produced to meet FIA Group B rallying standards. The rare mid-engine car packed Cosworth power and a reputation for being difficult to master.
“I’m quite nervous to drive it, to be honest,” he said as he lowered himself into the racing bucket seat of the Cosworth-powered machine before hustling it around what looked like Millbrook Proving Ground.
A Touch of Emotion in the Ford GT Mk3
The next treat was the Ford GT Mk3, a machine with deep motorsport heritage and a roaring 4737cc V8 engine.
Lawson admitted he was “almost emotional” as he felt the car’s power and history while cruising with the V8 soundtrack behind him.
The Wild Ride in the Focus RS
The highlight of pure fun came when Hadjar climbed into the 2010 Focus RS, Ford’s famous hot hatch with 305 horsepower.
“We’re definitely getting a proper test of the handling,” Lawson said, his grip tight on the door as his Algerian-French team-mate wrestled with the 305-horsepower super-hatch. With the 2.5-litre five-cylinder singing, both drivers failed to hide their whoops and screams as they fully utilised the performance of the car.
A Celebration of Ford Heritage
This Racing Bulls feature brought Ford’s history to life, blending muscle, rallying, endurance, and hot hatch thrills. With Lawson and Hadjar’s reactions adding authenticity, the video became less of a promotion and more of a celebration of Ford’s legendary cars.
