Lewis Hamilton believes Cadillac has made the right choice by selecting Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez for their 2026 Formula 1 lineup. The seven-time World Champion spoke highly of the veteran drivers, noting their talent and character as essential assets for the team’s debut season.
Hamilton Reflects on Bottas’s Talent and Character
Cadillac confirmed Bottas and Perez would return to the grid after spending the 2025 season on the sidelines. The news was welcomed by multiple drivers, including Max Verstappen, Perez’s former Red Bull teammate. Hamilton also expressed excitement about Bottas’s return, reflecting on their time racing together at Mercedes.
Hamilton remarked, “I don’t need to say anything about his talent because he’s shown that throughout his career. But [they’re] getting one of the most honest, probably the funniest, Finns I would imagine, and just the most genuine person to work with. I miss working with him.”
Bottas and Perez Bring Valuable Experience to Cadillac
Hamilton further praised Cadillac’s decision, saying, “I think they’ve chosen the right guys. Obviously, we’ll see with Sergio as well, he’s got great experience. That knowledge that they both bring from two great teams will help them progress faster.”
Bottas and Perez boast a combined 527 Grand Prix starts and 16 Grand Prix wins. They bring a wealth of experience to Cadillac’s new venture.
When asked if having two experienced drivers return to F1 was a good decision, Hamilton responded: “I think so. I think we have a good mix on the grid. I think it’s amazing to have an extra team. And I think for a team to be able to develop, you have to have drivers who have experience, especially when it’s a brand new team.”
He continued, “You’ve got two different flavours coming from Red Bull and Mercedes with different knowledge and experience that they’ll both be able to put into the pot and help the team move forward faster.”
As Cadillac gears up for its first season in Formula 1, the choice of Bottas and Perez seems poised to accelerate the team’s growth, offering both fresh and seasoned perspectives.
