Sheffield United Sign Danny Ings on Free TransferSheffield United Sign Danny Ings on Free Transfer

Sheffield United have officially signed Danny Ings on a free transfer after the striker’s release from West Ham United earlier this summer. The 33-year-old forward has penned a one-year contract with the Blades, which also includes an option for extension.

Ings joined the club after a short training spell and is expected to boost Sheffield United’s attacking options. The Blades sit at the bottom of the Championship table, with three defeats and only one goal scored so far this season.

Last season, Ings scored once in 15 Premier League games for West Ham, taking his tally to five goals in 69 appearances since joining the Hammers from Aston Villa in January 2023.

Speaking after his signing, Ings told the Blades website: “I’ve been keeping myself fit and I’ve just been waiting for the right opportunity. I thought this was a great one for me and a chance to progress my career as well.”

Career Journey

Danny Ings began his professional career at Bournemouth before moving to Burnley in 2011. He played a pivotal role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League, scoring 21 goals in 40 Championship games. Despite the Clarets being relegated, Ings scored 11 Premier League goals, earning an £8 million move to Liverpool in 2015.

Knee injuries hindered his progress at Liverpool, limiting him to four goals in 25 appearances across three seasons. A loan move to Southampton revived his career, leading to a permanent transfer in 2019-20. Ings rediscovered his form, scoring 46 goals in 100 games for the Saints and securing an England recall after five years.

He later moved to Aston Villa, where he netted 14 goals in 52 appearances, before joining West Ham United.

What Ings Brings to Sheffield United

With Sheffield United struggling for goals in the Championship, Danny Ings’ arrival offers much-needed experience and finishing ability. His proven record in English football across all divisions makes him a valuable addition for manager Chris Wilder’s side.
