Inter Miami has officially signed Argentina international Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid. The move begins as a loan and will become permanent in 2026. With this signing, Inter Miami continues to strengthen its global football brand by adding another World Cup winner to its squad.
A Huge Boost for Inter Miami
Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham expressed his delight at the signing.
“Rodrigo is a player I’ve admired for many years,” Beckham said. “As a leader he has brought so much to the teams he has played for – especially with his national team Argentina. He brings experience, passion and quality to our team and to our city. I’m excited to welcome another World Cup-winning player not just to Inter Miami, but also to MLS.”
De Paul, 31, is known for his aggressive style and leadership on the pitch. He was a crucial part of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning team. Fans have nicknamed him “Messi’s bodyguard” for his loyalty and tough play.
Atletico Madrid Bids Farewell
Atletico Madrid hinted at the move earlier by posting a farewell message on social media.
“From our club, we wish Rodrigo de Paul the best of luck in his future personal and professional endeavors,” the club stated.
De Paul spent four seasons with Atletico Madrid. He made 187 appearances, scored 14 goals, and provided 26 assists. Before that, he played in Serie A for Udinese, where he gained global recognition.
Strengthening the Midfield
At Inter Miami, De Paul joins a strong midfield lineup. He will play alongside U.S. international Benjamin Cremaschi, former Barcelona star Sergio Busquets, and fellow Argentine Federico Redondo. His addition improves the team’s balance, work rate, and experience.
Reports suggest the deal is worth $17 million. That makes De Paul one of the most expensive transfers in MLS history. However, with all Designated Player (DP) slots filled, questions arise about how Inter Miami managed the move under league rules. MLS has not yet provided clarity.
Speculation Comes to an End
The move puts an end to months of speculation. Miami had been linked with Neymar and Kevin De Bruyne in recent weeks. While De Paul may not be as flashy, he brings leadership, consistency, and elite experience.
This transfer reunites De Paul with national teammate Lionel Messi. It also shows Inter Miami’s continued ambition to turn MLS into a top destination for world-class talent.
