Manchester United has completed the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for £73.7m. The 22-year-old Slovenian international has agreed to a five-year deal. £66.3m is guaranteed, and the remainder is based on add-ons.
Sesko’s move is United’s third major signing in attack. Matheus Cunha arrived for £62.5m, and Bryan Mbeumo joined for £65m, plus £6m in add-ons. Despite interest from Newcastle United, Sesko chose to join Ruben Amorim’s team at Old Trafford.
Sesko’s Excitement About Joining Manchester United
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special. But what excites me most is the future,” said Sesko. “When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.”
He added, “From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment. This is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all my ambitions.”
“I can’t wait to start learning from Ruben and connect with my teammates to achieve the success we all know we are capable of together.”
What Will Benjamin Sesko Bring to Manchester United?
Sesko joins Manchester United after two impressive seasons at RB Leipzig. He scored 39 goals and registered 8 assists in 87 appearances. 27 of those goals came in 64 Bundesliga matches. He is the top scorer under 23 in Europe’s top five leagues. Sesko has one more goal than Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and five more than Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool for £100m this summer.
Known for his speed and strength, Sesko reached a top speed of 35.7 km/h. At 6ft 5in, he also has the highest aerial success rate among strikers, winning 57.4% of aerial duels.
Benjamin Sesko’s Impressive Stats and Versatility
Sesko ranks 16th in expected goals, 14th in shots, and 22nd in touches in the opposition box. Still, his goal-scoring ability is exceptional. 36.8% of his shots, and 23.1% of his goals, came from outside the box. This is higher than any Bundesliga striker who scored 12 or more goals last season.
In 2023-2024, Sesko became a more versatile player. 9.7% of his touches were in the opposition box, down from 17% the previous season. He also contributed more on the wings and in midfield.
Manchester United’s Director of Football Jason Wilcox on Sesko

“We have followed Benjamin’s career closely. Our data analysis showed he has the required qualities and personality to thrive at Manchester United. Working under Ruben and our performance team, Benjamin will be in the perfect environment to reach his world-class potential.”
