Bryan Mbeumo has described his £71 million transfer to Manchester United as a “dream come true.” The Cameroon international has signed a five-year contract, with an option for an additional year, after completing his move from Brentford.
Details of the Transfer Agreement
The 25-year-old forward is new manager Ruben Amorim’s third signing of the summer window. Mbeumo follows Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon to Manchester United. United agreed to pay an initial £65 million for Mbeumo, with a further £6 million in performance-related add-ons.
“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams — the team whose shirt I wore growing up,” Mbeumo said. “My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”
The Long and Eventful Transfer Saga
The transfer saga, which began in early June, has been one of the longest of the summer. United’s initial £55 million bid for Mbeumo was rejected, followed by a second attempt worth £62.5 million. However, negotiations took a positive turn last week when United’s third proposal, which was accepted by Brentford, sealed the deal.
Mbeumo’s Impressive Performance at Brentford
Mbeumo had a fantastic 2024–25 season with Brentford, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League. These numbers marked personal bests for the forward. Since joining Brentford from Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has made 242 appearances, scoring 70 goals and assisting 51 times.
A New Chapter for Manchester United
United finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League last season and missed out on European qualification. However, under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, the club is undergoing a complete rebuild. Mbeumo is expected to play a vital role in the manager’s new plans.
“Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future,” Mbeumo added. “This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans — we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”
Manchester United’s Vision for the Future
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s director of football, praised Mbeumo’s signing as a clear statement of intent. “Bryan’s goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional. His remarkable consistency has placed him among the most productive players in England over the past three seasons,” Wilcox said. “Bryan’s belief in our project and his determination to join the club confirmed he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture we are developing.”
Mbeumo will join his new teammates as Manchester United begins their pre-season tour of the United States.
