Barcelona beat Getafe 3-0 in the Spanish league on Sunday, with Dani Olmo delivering a standout performance. He scored once and set up Ferran Torres’ opening goal. The victory left Barcelona only two points behind Real Madrid, who defeated Espanyol 2-0 on Saturday.
Olmo shines with goal and assist
Barcelona went ahead in the 15th minute when Olmo flicked a clever backheel to Ferran Torres, who finished calmly. Raphinha’s cross then gave Torres another chance, and he doubled the advantage in the 34th.
Olmo sealed the win in the 62nd minute, finishing from near the penalty spot after Marcus Rashford provided the assist. Just before the goal, a man carrying a Palestinian flag entered the pitch. Security removed him quickly, and play was unaffected.
Coach Hansi Flick praised the team’s control. “We had to focus on our own performance. We controlled the match. It’s never easy to score three against Getafe.”
Torres also highlighted the importance of the win. “It was important to come away with the three points.”
Barca continue at Estadi Johan Cruyff
The fixture was played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, usually used by Barcelona’s women’s and youth teams. The Camp Nou remains closed due to pending renovation permits. Barcelona also hosted Valencia there on September 14, winning 6-0.
Getafe, after three wins in their first four matches, slipped to eighth place in the standings.
Atletico’s struggles worsen
Atletico Madrid failed to collect three points once again, drawing 1-1 with Mallorca. Julián Alvarez missed a penalty in the 14th minute. Conor Gallagher put Atletico ahead in the 79th, but Vedat Muriqi equalized six minutes later with a header.
Diego Simeone admitted the squad is still adjusting. “We are trying to build a new team. Several players arrived and we knew that something like this could happen. We knew we would have to go through this process.”
Alvarez showed frustration after being substituted for Alexander Sorloth, who was later sent off for a foul after video review. Atletico sit on six points, their worst start under Simeone after five matches. Mallorca remain winless with just two points.
Other La Liga results
Earlier on Sunday, Celta Vigo drew 1-1 at Rayo Vallecano. Elche edged Oviedo 1-0 at home, with André Silva scoring in the ninth minute.
