Andre-Frank Anguissa was the hero for Napoli as his last-gasp goal sealed a 1-0 win over Cagliari in Serie A. The Cameroon midfielder struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, keeping the champions level on points with Roma and Cremonese.
“It was a hard match because they defended really well but we didn’t leave anything out there, we pushed and in the end we won,” said Anguissa to DAZN.
Napoli struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Cagliari defense. Their closest opportunity came in the 57th minute when goalkeeper Elia Caprile denied Leonardo Spinazzola with a superb one-handed save. Moments before Anguissa’s winner, Scott McTominay wasted a golden chance to score for the hosts.
Stars Kevin De Bruyne and McTominay were subdued, while Lorenzo Lucca failed to make an impact in place of injured striker Romelu Lukaku.
A year ago, Anguissa also netted a late winner against Parma. However, he dismissed suggestions of any omen for Napoli’s Scudetto defense.
“The most important thing is winning, we played as a team and that’s how it should be,” Anguissa added.
Napoli are also set to sign Denmark forward Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United. He arrived in Italy on Saturday ahead of an initial loan move with an obligation to buy.
Roma Maintain Winning Start
Roma continued their strong start under Gian Piero Gasperini with a 1-0 win at Pisa. Matias Soule scored the decisive goal in the 54th minute, slotting in after a lay-off from Evan Ferguson.
“Every day that I’m here with the faith that is shown in me I feel better, but I can still give more,” said Soule.
The Argentine later had another effort ruled out for handball, but Roma held firm to secure their second consecutive victory. Soule’s growing partnership with Paulo Dybala is becoming a key weapon for Gasperini’s side.
Orsolini Lifts Bologna, Atalanta Held by Parma
Riccardo Orsolini marked his Italy recall by Gennaro Gattuso with the winning goal in Bologna’s 1-0 triumph over Como. The winger converted Santiago Castro’s low cross before the hour mark, giving Bologna their first win of the season.
“I need to get to know the coach (Gattuso) but I’m there for him and the rest of the lads. I’m always ready,” said Orsolini.
Atalanta’s winless run under Ivan Juric continued as they were held 1-1 at Parma. Mario Pasalic marked his 300th appearance with a fine finish, but Patrick Cutrone equalized in the 85th minute to deny the Europa League winners.
