Cricket West Indies has unveiled the West Indies T20 squad for the New Zealand tour 2025, scheduled from November 5 to 13. The Men in Maroon, fresh from their T20 series win over Bangladesh, will now continue their preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with a consistent and balanced lineup.

Squad Updates and Comebacks

After successfully recovering from a shoulder injury, Matthew Forde makes his return to the national side. Joining him is Shamar Springer, brought in to add depth to the seam bowling unit after injuries sidelined Ramon Simmons and Jediah Blades.

Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has been given a break following recent struggles with his bowling action. Considering the seamer-friendly conditions in New Zealand, he will instead work with technical experts from the Royals Sports Group. The group, owners of the Paarl Royals franchise in South Africa, will help him fine-tune his action before the T20 World Cup.

Focus on Mental Resilience and Performance

A new face joins the management group, as Clinical Psychologist Krisnan Hurdle takes over as Mental Skills and Performance Coach. His appointment, confirmed during CWI’s October 1 media briefing, begins with this New Zealand tour. It aims to boost the players’ mental preparedness and focus at the elite level.

Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe commented:

“The addition of a Mental Skills and Performance Coach reflects our commitment to developing the complete cricketer. At the elite level, success is as much about mindset and composure as it is about technical ability. Strengthening this area ensures that our players are provided with the necessary non-technical support geared towards equipping them to manage pressure and maintain focus.”

Building Momentum for the T20 World Cup 2026

The five-match T20I series against New Zealand will serve as a vital opportunity for West Indies to test combinations. It will also help the team reinforce strategies and build mental strength ahead of the 2026 global tournament.
