Shreyas Iyer Injured in 3rd ODI vs AustraliaShreyas Iyer Injured in 3rd ODI vs Australia

India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury during the 3rd ODI vs Australia at SCG on Saturday. The incident occurred when he attempted a spectacular catch off Alex Carey’s shot.

On the fourth delivery of the 34th over, Carey miscued a stroke towards the deep. Shreyas charged in from backward point, judged the flight, and pulled off a stunning catch. The moment ended a 59-run partnership but left him in visible pain after he fell awkwardly on his left side. Teammates rushed to assist him as he remained on the ground.

The medical unit arrived immediately. After brief on-field treatment, Shreyas walked off with support, raising concerns ahead of upcoming fixtures.

Injury Adds to India’s Growing Concerns

Alex Carey had already survived once when Prasidh Krishna dropped him off Kuldeep Yadav in the 30th over. This time, his scratchy 24 off 37 balls came to an end.

Shreyas’ injury comes on the heels of Nitish Kumar Reddy’s fitness issue. Nitish was ruled out earlier in the day with a left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide. The BCCI confirmed, “Nitish is being monitored daily by the medical team.”

At the toss, India captain Shubman Gill announced two changes to the playing XI. Arshdeep Singh and Nitish made way for Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav.

Nitish and Arshdeep Also Under Fitness Cloud

The BCCI revealed Nitish’s injury but remained silent on Arshdeep Singh’s absence. The left-arm pacer appeared to struggle with cramps during the Adelaide ODI, where he received treatment on the sidelines.

Nitish failed to make an impact in the previous match. He scored 8 runs from 10 balls and conceded 24 runs in his three-over spell without taking a wicket. His economy rate of 8.00 hurt India’s chances in the must-win clash.

Shreyas Iyer’s status will now depend on further medical assessments. Team India’s management faces mounting fitness issues ahead of crucial games in the series.
