Harmanpreet Kaur, who led India to their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title, did not feature in the Team of the Tournament. The ICC named South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt as the skipper of the side.
Only three Indian players, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma, earned spots in the lineup. England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt was picked as the 12th player.
Harmanpreet scored 260 runs in nine matches with an average of 32.50. Her key performance came in the semifinal against Australia, where she scored 89 runs to push India into the final.
Both India and South Africa have three players each in the team. The Proteas are represented by Marizanne Kapp, Wolvaardt, and Nadine de Klerk.
Australia also contributed Annabel Sutherland, Alana King, and Ashleigh Gardner. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Sidra Nawaz and England’s Sophie Ecclestone completed the lineup.
Mandhana, Rodrigues, and Deepti Shine for India
Smriti Mandhana enjoyed a strong tournament, scoring 434 runs at an average of 54.25. She also hit a stylish century against New Zealand.
Jemimah Rodrigues played one of the tournament’s finest innings, scoring 127 runs in the semifinal. Her performance helped India chase down 339 runs, the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history.
Deepti Sharma claimed the Player of the Tournament award. She dominated the bowling charts with 22 wickets, playing a vital role in India’s title run.
Laura Wolvaardt topped the batting charts with 571 runs at 71.37, setting a new record for the highest aggregate in a Women’s World Cup.
Sidra Nawaz excelled behind the stumps. She registered three catches and four stumpings, including a sharp take to dismiss Harmanpreet Kaur.
ICC Selection Panel and Final Lineup
The selection panel included Ian Bishop, Mel Jones, Isa Guha, Gaurav Saxena, and Estelle Vasudevan. They finalized the squad after evaluating performances across all matches.
