Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has suggested that his NBA retirement might be approaching sooner than many expect. Ahead of his 23rd season, the league’s all-time leading scorer reflected on his future while sharing his excitement for another championship push with the Lakers.

“I’m excited about today,” James said during the Los Angeles Lakers’ media day at their training complex. “I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season.

“However the journey plays out this year, I’m super-invested, because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”

Now 40, LeBron James continues to perform at an elite level despite the demands of two decades in the league. “It’s pretty cool to know how many miles I’ve got and still be able to play at a high level. For me, age is kind of just a number, but it is reality, too,” he added.

“You look at the history of the game, there’s not been many guys at my age, especially going into year 23, that have been able to play at a level like that. I just try not to take it for granted and just try to give the game as much as I can, inspire whoever I can.”

Still Locked In on Championship Ambitions

Despite hinting at the end of his career, James remains driven by the pursuit of another NBA title. His experience and leadership are expected to play a major role in guiding a refreshed Lakers roster through the challenges of the upcoming season.

While questions linger about how many years he has left, James’ commitment to competing at the highest level remains unwavering. He aims to make the most of every opportunity on the court before deciding when to walk away.

Playing With Both Sons Not a Priority

James also touched on the idea of sharing the NBA floor with his children. He’s grateful for the chance to suit up alongside his eldest son, Bronny, now part of the Lakers roster, but he is not shaping his career around the possibility of playing with both of them.

“I’m not waiting on Bryce,” James said with a smile. “I don’t know what his timeline is. He’s his own young man now. He’s down in Tucson. We’ll see what happens this year, next year. He has his own timeline, I’ve got my timeline, and I don’t know if they quite match up. We’ll see.”

Although LeBron James has not revealed a specific retirement date, his remarks hint that the final chapter of his NBA journey could be closer than fans realize.
