Top seed and world number two Coco Gauff kept her title hopes alive in Montreal. She came from a set and a break down to defeat Veronika Kudermetova 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in a thrilling match.

The 2025 French Open winner has now reached the last 16 of the Canadian Open for the fifth straight time. Gauff will next face either 18-year-old Canadian wildcard Victoria Mboko or Czech player Marie Bouzkova.

Andreeva Knocked Out, Zhu Lin Moves On

Fourth seed Mirra Andreeva exited early after a 7-6, 6-5 loss to 28th seed McCartney Kessler. The American will now meet 27th seed Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine.

Kostyuk posted a comeback win against 15th seed Daria Kasatkina, winning 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Unseeded Zhu Lin of China also made it through. She eased past Suzan Lamens with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 scoreline.

Musetti Falls, Michelsen and Ruud Advance in Toronto

The men’s draw in Toronto saw a big upset. Third seed Lorenzo Musetti was knocked out by 26th seed Alex Michelsen of the USA. The match ended 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in Michelsen’s favor.

Michelsen will now face the winner of an all-American clash between Learner Tien and Reilly Opelka. Eighth seed Casper Ruud also progressed. He beat Nuno Borges 7-6, 6-4.

Next up for Ruud is 11th seed Karen Khachanov. The Russian defeated Emilio Nava 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 to book his place in the fourth round. Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo also advanced. He beat compatriot Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets and will next face either top seed Alexander Zverev or Matteo Arnaldi.
