Emma Raducanu Is Better Than Ever: HenmanEmma Raducanu Is Better Than Ever: Henman

Former British tennis star Tim Henman has come to Emma Raducanu’s defense ahead of her return to the US Open, asserting that the 22-year-old is now a “much better player” than when she made history in 2021. Despite enduring injuries, inconsistent form, and media scrutiny, Henman believes Raducanu is physically stronger, mentally tougher, and ready to silence her critics.

A Look Back: Raducanu’s Historic 2021 US Open Run

Raducanu stunned the tennis world by winning the 2021 US Open as a qualifier—becoming the first in history to achieve that feat. Even more impressively, she won all 10 matches without dropping a single set. That fairytale run transformed her into an overnight global star.

However, the seasons that followed were not kind. Struggling with frequent injuries and unable to maintain consistency, Raducanu failed to clinch another title. Her ranking slipped, and critics questioned whether she could ever return to the same level of success.

Henman: “She’s a Much Better Player Than She Was”

Despite the setbacks, Tim Henman believes Raducanu is better equipped now than ever before. “She’s a much better player than she was in 2021 because she’s had four more years of experience and now she’s started to build more of a team around her. She’s been competing so much more this year, which therefore emphasises the physical resilience that she’s got because she was always getting injuries,” Henman told Sky Sports.

Henman also noted that Raducanu’s increased tournament participation in 2024 shows her improved physical condition and dedication. She has already played 14 events this season—more than her totals in 2023 and 2022 combined.

Wimbledon Showed Her True Potential, Says Henman

Raducanu’s performance at Wimbledon this year further cemented Henman’s belief in her resurgence. She went toe-to-toe with world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling third-round clash. “And I think it was great to see her on the biggest stage in our sport against the number one player in the world. She had a really good chance to win that match and I’m sure that will motivate her now moving onto the hardcourt swing in America to keep building,” Henman added.

Sabalenka Also Predicts Raducanu’s Return to the Top

Sabalenka, after narrowly defeating Raducanu, had high praise for her opponent and didn’t shy away from predicting a comeback. “It’s only a matter of time before she returns to the top,” Sabalenka said.

All Eyes on Washington as Raducanu’s Comeback Begins

Emma Raducanu is now preparing to kick off her North American hardcourt swing next week in Washington, D.C. With her form improving and momentum building, the 2024 US Open could mark the return of Britain’s brightest tennis star to the top stage.
