World No. 1 women’s tennis player Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn from the 2025 China Open due to a minor injury. The Belarusian tennis star sustained the injury following her impressive run at the US Open. She decided to take the necessary time to focus on recovery.
Sabalenka Focuses on Full Recovery for the Rest of the Year
In an official statement, Aryna Sabalenka shared her disappointment with fans. She said, “Hi all – I am sad to announce my withdrawal from the China Open this year after sustaining a small injury after the US Open. I am going to focus on being 100% healthy for the rest of the year and I can’t wait to see my Chinese fans soon! I look forward to returning to Beijing next year and wish the tournament good luck.”
Despite missing out on the China Open, Sabalenka’s 2025 season has been nothing short of spectacular. She reached the finals of the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open. At the US Open, she became the first woman to win back-to-back singles titles in Flushing Meadows since Serena Williams in 2014.
Impressive Achievements in 2025
Sabalenka notched her 100th career Grand Slam main-draw victory with her triumph in the US Open final. There she defeated American Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6(3). This victory brought her total tour wins in 2025 to 56, solidifying her dominance on the WTA Tour.
The 2025 China Open is scheduled to run from September 24 to October 5. American Coco Gauff is the defending champion and will be looking to retain her title. Sabalenka reached the quarterfinals at the Beijing event last year and had been expected to make another deep run this season. However, with her focus now on full recovery, Sabalenka will look forward to returning to the tour next year.
Sabalenka now has four Grand Slam titles to her name, two each at the US Open and Australian Open, with a career trajectory resembling that of former champions like Naomi Osaka.
