Nottingham Forest Sign Douglas Luiz on Loan from JuventusNottingham Forest Sign Douglas Luiz on Loan from Juventus

Nottingham Forest have signed Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz from Juventus on a season-long loan. The deal includes a conditional obligation to make the transfer permanent next summer.

Forest’s latest signing adds serious Premier League quality to their squad. The club is preparing for a Europa League campaign with renewed ambition. Luiz, 27, joined Juventus last summer from Aston Villa in a €50 million transfer. However, he made only 27 appearances during a disappointing season in Turin.

On the move, Luiz expressed his enthusiasm: “I am really happy to be here, it’s a big club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the club has. I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans.”

Forest’s Transfer Momentum and European Return

Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season. The result earned them Europa League football and sparked an ambitious summer spending spree.

Douglas Luiz joins several high-profile recruits. Omari Hutchinson arrived from Ipswich Town for £37.5 million. James McAtee signed from Manchester City for nearly £30 million. Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo also joined for an initial £26 million.

These additions highlight Forest’s determination to compete on multiple fronts with a squad filled with experience and ambition.

Deal Details and Juventus Exit

Reports differ on the financial structure of Luiz’s move. Forest are expected to pay an initial loan fee of €3 million. The deal carries a conditional obligation to buy for €25 million, rising to €31.5 million with bonuses.

Some outlets suggest Juventus will receive at least €30 million. Others note Forest could still complete the deal even if Luiz fails to meet appearance clauses.

Luiz endured a difficult year in Italy after leaving Aston Villa. He started only a handful of matches for Juventus and registered no goal contributions. This led to speculation the club was ready to move him on.

A Premier League Revival Beckons

Douglas Luiz now has the chance to reignite his career in England. He began professionally at Vasco da Gama before joining Manchester City in 2017. Though he never played for City, he gained valuable experience on loan at Girona.

His breakthrough came at Aston Villa, where he became a midfield leader. Over five years at Villa Park, he made more than 175 Premier League appearances. He developed a reputation for creativity, composure, and defensive discipline.

On the international stage, Luiz has represented Brazil 18 times. He also won Olympic gold at Tokyo in 2021. His move to Nottingham Forest offers a fresh Premier League chapter as the club prepares for European competition.
